USA - Sales for November by brand and with best seller.

Another month has come and gone, and automakers have announced November sales figures. Just like last month, all but six automakers managed to have positive numbers. The majority of automakers show double digit percentage increases over the same month last year, showing the industry as a whole is continuing to grow.
This month’s sales leader was once again Jaguar, with an increase of 103 percent. Not as high as last month, but the automaker continues to outpace the rest of the industry. High sales of the new XF have boosted Jaguar to the top, and with new models coming out in the months ahead, we can expect the numbers to continue to climb.
Volkswagen continues to struggle with sales, and although the numbers weren’t as low as last month, it seems like the automaker needs to do something to get back in the positive. Volvo has also struggled this month, showing a decrease of over 30 percent when compared to November 2012. Hopefully with the holidays coming, sales will increase for the automakers.
Check out the numbers below to see what automakers managed to stay on top.

EXTERIOR DESIGN
For 2014, the Genesis 3.8 receives a standard 18-inch alloy wheel, replacing the former standard 17-inch alloy wheel for a more premium appearance. From the front view, Genesis has an aggressive front fascia with large intake openings and LED lighting accents. In addition, the mirrors incorporate power-folding and puddle lamp functions, while the side window trim has a decidedly sporty brushed aluminum finish. From the rear view, one notices the dual asymmetrical exhaust tips cleanly integrated into the bumper fascia.
SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES
Maintaining Hyundai's emphasis on delivering leading safety technology, Genesis boasts world-class active and passive safety features to help both prevent accidents and maximize the safety of its occupants in the event of a collision. Genesis continues the Hyundai tradition of standardizing key life-saving safety technology with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), eight airbags and electronic active head restraints. Active front head restraints have been proven by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to help prevent whiplash.
Daytime running lights come standard on the 2014 Genesis. Further, Genesis offers a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), available on the 3.8 Technology package and the 5.0 R-Spec. Whenever the system is activated, a warning chime and dial-integrated warning light alert drivers of their lane departure, allowing them to reposition the car smoothly into the correct position.
Genesis' total of eight airbags includes advanced dual front airbags, front and outboard rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and roof-mounted side curtain airbags for both front and rear outboard seat occupants.
Genesis also offers a parking assistance system with eight ultrasonic sensors located on the front and rear bumpers. The sensors, along with the rear backup camera, help detect how close objects are when parking. Distance is indicated on the in-dash screen and accompanied by an audible warning tone.
Genesis is brought to a halt by large four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). Genesis 3.8 models have large 13.0-inch front rotors with four-piston fixed calipers, while the 5.0 R-Spec has larger 13.6-inch front rotors.

USA - Hyundai has best October in History of US sales.

  • ***PLEASE NOTE THE UPDATED CY/2013 SALES NUMBERS FOR ELANTRA***
  • Core vehicles lead the charge with Sonata up 18 percent, Santa Fe up 36 percent
  • Auto show season brings more product news and a big announcement in L.A.

Hyundai Motor America has announced sales for the month of October of 53,555 units, up seven percent versus the same period in 2012, representing the best October in company history.

“October was a bit of a roller coaster ride for the entire automotive sector so we feel pretty good about exceeding prior year sales results and posting our best-ever October performance,” said Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of national sales. “We expect continued economic and political stabilization throughout the final two months of 2013, which should ease uncertainty, boost consumer confidence and restore a robust growth curve for new vehicle sales.”

The core vehicles in the Hyundai line-up all saw sales gains during the month of October. Accent, Sonata, Elantra and Santa Fe sales were up 7, 18, 3 and 36 percent, respectively, with Sonata and Santa Fe aided by the arrival of freshened 2014 models with high-demand features like blind spot detection. The new 2014 Equus continues its roll, with sales up 14 percent. Azera, Tucson, Genesis and Veloster 2014 models are just now arriving at Hyundai dealerships.

“Consumers sidelined during the government shutdown took to showroom floors later in the month, with Hyundai sales pacing well over prior year levels in the last two weeks,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO. “While we continue to rebuild dealer inventories on core models like Sonata and Santa Fe, we’re also looking forward to the Los Angeles Auto International Auto Show in a few weeks, where we’ll be introducing a refreshed 2014 Elantra line-up and our take on the next generation of electric vehicles.”

Fleet sales represented 18 percent of total sales in October.

Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales for the month were 6,405 a gain of 106 percent.

New Hyundai Genesis, a world class premium rear drive saloon.

  • Information on the all-new Genesis unveiled to pique market’s interest
  • With its initial launch in Korea, the all-new Genesis to be introduced in major markets next year

Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker, today held an ‘All-New Genesis Media Preview’ for the Korean media at Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center and officially unveiled the first image renderings of the car. The purpose of the pre-launch media event was to promote its domestic launch scheduled later this year. Staging its world-premiere in Korea, the all-new Genesis will debut in major markets next year.

“Launched in 2008, Hyundai’s first premium rear-wheel drive sedan Genesis surprised the industry with its outstanding product competitiveness,” said Moon Sik Kwon, head of Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center, in his welcome remarks. “The evolved all-new Genesis is the product of Hyundai’s best resources and capabilities and we strongly believe it will be a game-changer in the market.”

With a total investment of 500 billion KRW, the project began with the aim of developing a world-class premium rear-wheel drive sedan, and it took four years to develop the current model.

Its main strengths are: Premium and distinctive design, best-in-class chassis system, premium European brands’ level of driving and R&H performance, cutting-edge safety and convenience features.

With emotional touches included in every detail, conveying Hyundai’s brand identity ‘Modern Premium,’ the all-new Genesis has secured best-in-class basic product competitiveness through numerous tests carried out in various locations worldwide, including the famed Nürburgring in Germany.

DESIGN

Since its introduction in 2009, Hyundai’s unique design philosophy ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ has evolved to the next level and the all-new Genesis is the first model to adopt Fluidic Sculpture 2.0.

While maintaining its original essence, Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 is defined by core elements: Simple and harmonious design with refined fluidic design elements, modern Hyundai look with a singular hexagonal grille, easy-to-understand and pleasant design and rich visuotactile color, material and finishing of the car.

Designed based on this new philosophy, the all-new Genesis boasts a premium sports sedan look with refined, ‘in-motion’ design aesthetics. A single-frame premium hexagonal grille makes a bold front statement, while fluidic and voluminous surfacing complete the side lines. Meanwhile, the high-tech, sculptural surface emphasizes the rear design.

Its interior design aligns with the premium exterior, adopting consistent design details that fully reflect careful consideration of ergonomics and intuitive operation. Tailored design specifications for all materials and master craftsmanship-level finish strengthen its premium image.

The all-new Genesis also focuses on Human Machine Interface (HMI), which lets drivers intuitively recognize vehicle functions, allowing for more convenient and effective use of those functions.

Switches are categorized depending on their function, facilitating easier control. Symbols are standardized for intuitive recognition, and the feel of the grip and control have been improved as well.

Starting with the all-new Genesis, future models will be designed based on Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 and its HMI principles.

SAFETY

The all-new Genesis significantly improved its safety in crash tests due to improved body structure and rigidity.

Its torsional and bending stiffness have been increased by applying more ultra-high-strength steel, hot-stamping and double-section structure on the front, partitioned engine room design as well as improved rear and center floor structures.

Passenger safety has been improved by the application of advanced seatbelt functions such as Emergency Fastening Device system (EFD), which tightly fastens passengers in crashes, and Pre-Safe seatbelt, which warns of danger in advance by tightening the seatbelt.

PERFORMANCE

With improved suspension and application of various advanced technologies, the all-new Genesis offers top-class driving and ride & handling performances. Greatly improved lateral stiffness of the front and rear suspensions and excellent weight balance contribute to the making of a stable chassis. Meanwhile, application of electronic control suspension such as Advanced Traction Cornering Control (ATCC) enables greater stability in corners.

Furthermore, Rack-mounted Motor Driven Electric Power Steering (R-MDPS) was first applied to the model with a variable gear ratio, which provides high-speed stability and direct response at low and medium speeds.

Hyundai’s ‘HTRAC’ all-wheel drive system will also be available for the first time on the all-new Genesis. The advanced HTRAC system electronically controls torque split between the front and rear axles depending on road and driving conditions, offering greater stability on slippery roads and in corners. It also allows drivers to select driving modes for a sophisticated and tailored driving experience.

Hyundai Europe to start a new performance sub-brand

By Hafriz Shah of www.paultan.org

Having successfully (in parts, at least) upgraded its status from budget beaters to genuine class contenders, Hyundai Europe is gunning to add yet another side to its multifaceted brand construct – the elusive performance breakthrough. To that end, the Germany-based Hyundai Motorsport GmbH will introduce a performance sub-brand as early as 2015.

Rally veteran and Hyundai’s WRC team chief Michel Nandan has confirmed the Korean brand’s intention, with the new sub-brand banking on the company’s return to the WRC stage next year. Its sporting credentials will have to be earned, however, especially since it’ll have to beat the newly-crowned WRC champion Sebastien Ogier and his Volkswagen team.

A performance-oriented sub-brand similar to the likes of Nissan’s Nismo is what Hyundai targets. Its first offering is said to be based on the next-generation i20 small hatchback, which is primed for a 2015 launch. Hyundai’s permanent, fully-fledged test centre at the Nurburgring track will play a pivotal role in this project.
It’s a simple enough premise: success on the world stage will improve Hyundai and its new sub-brand’s image and henceforth, sales (though arguably Proton has gained very little from its rallying exploits). Other than the hot i20 hatch, quicker, more serious variants of the Veloster, Genesis Coupe or even bigger hatchbacks/saloons could be on the cards. Anyone filled with excitement yet?

Latest Hyundai i10, the best yet and at no price rise too.

Pricing and specification announced

  • Hyundai’s New Generation i10 available in the UK from 30 January 2014
  • Price-entry point remains the same as the outgoing model at £8,345
  • B-segment value in an A-segment package
  • Modern and expressive styling both inside and out
  • Even greater levels of refinement, quality and safety

New standard and optional equipment introduced across the model range enhances overall value offering
The latest version of Hyundai’s best-selling model, the i10 city car, will go on sale in the UK on 30 January 2014, with prices starting at £8,345.

Appearing over five years after its predecessor went on sale, the New Generation i10 represents significant progress for the brand in the A-segment. Hyundai has already sold over 110,000 units of the Original i10 in the UK alone since launch in April 2008 accounting for one third of European sales.

The New Generation i10 features a more expressive design both inside and out, while generous levels of comfort, quality and safety equipment enhance the car’s appeal even further.

It is equipped with a host of standard and optional equipment typically found on cars from segments above. Automatic climate control, heated leather steering wheel and cruise control provide additional comfort, while safety features include the standard-fitment of Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and six airbags.

The New Generation i10 will be available with two refined and efficient petrol engines.  The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder powertrain has an output of 66PS.  Maximum power is produced at 5,500rpm, 700rpm earlier than in Original i10, while peak torque of 94Nm is available from 3,500rpm.  In manual form, it can travel from standstill to 62mph in 14.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 96mph.

Expected to take approximately 40% of total sales, the four-cylinder 1.2-litre engine delivers 87PS at 6,000rpm. Maximum torque of 120Nm is available from 4,000rpm.

When mated to manual transmission, it can accelerate from standstill to 62mph in 12.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 106mph.

High-tensile steel forms 29.2 per cent of the body structure of New Generation i10 – a huge increase over the nine per cent utilised in Original i10.  The firm underpinnings not only improve the car’s impact-resistance, but yield significant improvements in noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).

Other NVH counter-measures include larger hydraulic mountings for the engine, a triple-layer dashboard bulkhead with sound-deadening panel, dual door sealing strips, and two measures to reduce wind noise –careful refinement of the shape of the door mirror mounts and moving the radio antenna towards the rear of the roof.  The results of the measures are impressive, with noise levels as low as 38dB at idle and 65dB on rough surfaces –noticeably below those of key rivals.

Longer (+80mm), wider (+65mm) and lower (-50mm) than its predecessor, the New Generation i10 also delivers best-in-class* legroom and luggage capacity for an A-segment car. Front and rear passengers benefit from a combined 1,890mm of legroom while luggage capacity is increased by 10 per cent to 252 litres with the seats up.

It will be available with up to seven exterior colours and 4 interior colour trims depending on model.

The New Generation i10 aligns with Hyundai’s new trim strategy first seen on the New ix35. The range begins with the new S trim, which starts at £8,345 OTR – the same entry price as the outgoing model.

As standard, the S trim comes specified with the 1.0-litre powertrain, cloth interior trim in black with beige inserts, 14 inch steel wheels, central locking, electric front windows, CD tuner + USB, Daytime Running Lights, ISOfix and tilt adjust steering wheel as standard.  The S Air with the addition of air-conditioning will be available from £8,995.00.

Moving up to the mid-trim SE, customers will benefit from remote central locking, electric rear windows, electric heated door mirrors, body colour door handles and mirrors, driver’s seat height adjustment and black B pillar.  The SE is available in 1.0-litre manual, 1.0-litre Blue Drive with ISG (4 seat), 1.2-litre manual and the 1.2-litre automatic variants. Blue accent cloth interior trim is standard with vibrant orange accent cloth trim available as a no-cost option. Prices begin at £9,295.

The range-topping Premium trim sets new standards for equipment in the A- segment. 14 inch alloys, Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition, steering wheel controls, LED daytime running lights, front fog lamps, rear speakers, drivers safety window, door mirror indicators, Emergency Stop Signal are all available as standard, ensuring customers receive the very best value for money for Hyundai’s popular city car. The interior and exterior design and perceived quality is further enhanced with the addition of side body mouldings, leather steering wheel and gear stick and chrome effect interior door handle and parking brake. The Blue accent cloth interior comes as standard. Vibrant orange interior is available as a no-cost option and the woven pattered cloth interior in red with black leather-like side panels comes as a cost-option on the 1.2-litre Premium.  Prices start from £9,995 OTR.

All models come standard with 5-seats, apart from the SE Blue Drive derivative which is available with 4-seats.

Customers looking for additional comfort and individuality can specify optional equipment, which includes metallic paint, 14 and 15 inch alloys, space saver emergency spare wheel, the Connectivity Pack (which includes Bluetooth with voice recognition, rear speakers and steering wheel controls), the Winter Pack (heated leather steering wheel and heated front seats) and the Driver Assist pack (rear parking sensors and cruise control with speed limiter).

The New Generation i10 is produced at Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Izmit, Turkey, which recently received a £420 million upgrade to accommodate the increased production.

Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, said: “The i10 has proved to be a hugely popular model in Hyundai’s range and it has successfully maintained annual sales above 20,000 units since 2009. The New Generation i10 builds on this success with a more expressive and stylish car that majors on refinement, quality, safety, generous specification and also value. With this in mind, Hyundai expects that the new model will still appeal to both existing i10 owners as well as those customers who may not have considered Hyundai in the past.”

As with all Hyundai’s passenger cars, the New Generation i10 is backed by the brand’s industry leading 5 Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty, which offers amongst the best warranty cover in the industry as judged by Auto Express magazine. This includes five years unlimited mileage warranty, five years free roadside assistance and five years of annual vehicle health checks, which give customers ultimate peace of mind.

  • HAOS working as strategic production base in Europe
  • Investment creates more than 2,700 jobs
Hyundai Motor Company has completed expansion of its Turkey plant, Hyundai Assan Otomotiv Sanayi (HAOS), doubling its annual capacity to 200,000 units with an investment of $634 million. With an additional $43 million added by the end of this year, the total investment will reach $677 million, creating more than 2,700 new jobs in Turkey.

The production of New Generation i10 starts today at HAOS with a ceremony attended by Republic of Turkey Minister of Economy Zafer Caglayan, Korean Ambassador of Turkey Sang-Kyu Lee, and Hyundai Motor Company Vice Chairman Euisun Chung, as well as executives,  HAOS employees and media.

“HAOS will be the sole production centre of the New Generation i10, which has a strategic importance for European markets. We will continue investing more at HAOS to produce world-class quality vehicles,” said Euisun Chung, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Company, during his speech at the ceremony.

The New Generation i10 debuted at the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) in Frankfurt this month showing features of its dynamic and spacious design and outstanding performance. New Generation i10 is designed, engineered and assembled in Europe to satisfy the needs of Europe’s demanding drivers.

The 16-month expansion of Hyundai Motor’s HAOS plant will contribute to the auto industry of Turkey by adding new jobs to the local economy.  HAOS has become Hyundai Motor’s small car production base for Europe by adding New Generation i10 to existing i20 production.

Established in 1997, HAOS, in Izmit, is Hyundai Motor’s longest-operating manufacturing facility among seven factories outside of Korea. Originally capable of producing 60,000 units per year, the plant added 40,000 units of capacity in 2006. HAOS began producing i20 in 2010 to cover the rapidly growing demand of European customers. Now, with an annual capacity of 200,000 units, HAOS is a base of regional strategic importance for Hyundai Motor.

New European Test Centre officially opened at iconic Nürburgring location for Hyundai

  • New European Test Centre officially opened at iconic Nürburgring location
  • Hyundai Motor invests more than €6,6 million in its new facility
  • Purpose-built site to conduct more accelerated durability tests

Hyundai Motor has officially opened its brand new European Test Centre at the Nürburgring in Germany, the company’s latest investment in its regional infrastructure. An opening ceremony marked the completion of the €6,62 million purpose-built vehicle testing facility, boosting the brand’s R&D operations in Europe.

The company’s new test centre provides it with a full-time presence at the iconic Nürburgring circuit, allowing it to further evaluate and develop the durability and driving dynamics of its vehicles more effectively and more often.

Construction of the striking 3,622m2 Hyundai European Test Centre began in June 2012 and was completed in less than 15 months. The unique glass and steel building houses workshops, office spaces and hospitality areas over four floors. The Nürburgring facility is an extension of Hyundai’s European R&D centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, where the brand’s European design and engineering teams have been based since 2003.

Hyundai’s accelerated durability tests are conducted from the European Test Centre. Each car taking part in the tests laps the Nürburgring 480 times in both dry and wet conditions, simulating over 100,000 miles of rigorous driving in less than six weeks.

Throughout each lap, data parameters are continually monitored, assessing steering input and vehicle course, suspension movement and ride and handling characteristics. The results are given directly to the vehicle development team based at the circuit, enabling Hyundai’s engineers to quickly make changes and tailor cars’ characteristics to the demands of European drivers.

Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe commented: “The Nürburgring is a unique challenge for any vehicle, so it is the perfect location for our new facility.  The new European Test Centre is a natural extension of our Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, and enables Hyundai Motor to more quickly and more accurately test the reliability and drivability of our vehicles. The emotional appeal of being ‘tested at Nürburgring’ will also help to further build the brand’s reputation across Europe.”

The Nürburgring is widely recognised as one of the most challenging tracks in the world, with 73 corners – 33 left and 40 right –spread across 12.8 miles of tarmac. With a difference in height of almost 300 metres between the lowest and the highest points, it features uphill and downhill gradients of 11 and 17 per cent respectively.

New generation Hyundai i10, bigger, better and more luxurious

“New Generation i10 is a significant step forward for the brand and will ensure Hyundai Motor remains a leader in the highly-competitive A-segment by introducing more customers to what Hyundai Motor is all about: delivering ‘true value’.” – Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor Europe

  • Hyundai Motor’s first A-segment to be designed, developed and built in Europe
  • Longer, wider and lower, with class-leading space and practicality
  • Levels of comfort and safety from the segment above
  • Sophisticated exterior and interior styling
  • High levels of perceived quality and Five Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty

Hyundai Motor is set to build on its success achieved in the A-segment with the New Generation i10, a model designed, engineered and manufactured in Europe, for European buyers.

The new model both enhances Hyundai Motor’s ‘made-for-Europe‘ product line-up and introduces new standards to the region’s A-segment, bringing class-leading space, levels of comfort and safety from the segment above, and sophisticated exterior and interior design.

As well as sales, Original i10 won numerous awards across Europe, most recently being named ‘Best city car less than £9000’ at the What Car?Car of the Year 2013 awards (UK), and generated loyalty rates above the segment average – 54% in the five biggest European markets compared to the segment average of 48%.

Another evolution over Original i10 is the introduction of what Hyundai Motor calls ‘true value’ – the addition of desirable features from segments above and emotional qualities such as dynamic styling to existing rational features such as high quality and high efficiency.  Exemplified by models such as New Generation i30 and New ix35, true value is now integral to the appeal of New Generation i10.

“We’re offering consumers something truly unique in New Generation i10 – an A-segment car consumers want to buy, not one they feel they have to.  It fully meets the rational needs of buyers in the cost-sensitive A-segment, yet delivers levels of comfort, driving pleasure and perceived quality from segments above,” said Mark Hall, Vice President of Marketing, Hyundai Motor Europe.

New Generation i10 is another example of Hyundai Motor’s commitment to European customers.  It has been designed and engineered at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre (HME TC) in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and is, for the first time, manufactured in the region, at the company’s recently-expanded plant in Ízmit, Turkey.

Influenced by Hyundai Motor’s design philosophy, fluidic sculpture, New Generation i10 features sleek and substantial lines that emphasise the naturally athletic stance of a model which is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor.

The new proportions are mirrored by a driving experience that has been developed to meet European preferences.  Relocated and retuned components result in greater body and wheel control, delivering more driver involvement and ride comfort comparable to that of cars from higher segments.

The larger bodyshell of New Generation i10 yields one of the roomiest occupant cabins on the market, as well as a best-in-class 252 litres of trunk capacity.  Up to 1046 litres becomes available when the rear seats are folded – also a best-in-class figure.  New levels of craftsmanship can be found in the spacious interior, together with levels of comfort and safety equipment commonly only found in segments above.

Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: “The introduction of New Generation i10 represents a pivotal moment for Hyundai Motor in Europe and for the A-segment in the region.  Rich in features and abilities normally only found in vehicles from segments above, New Generation i10 offers consumers premium equipment and abilities –without asking them to pay a premium price.  In addition, consumers benefit from more practicality and space, as well as style and comfort; we’re confident New Generation i10 will win new customers while retaining the many new customers won by Original i10.”

Demonstrating Hyundai Motor’s confidence in its European build quality, the New Generation i10 will come with the company’s Five Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty.  The industry-best package also includes five years of roadside assistance and five years of vehicle health checks - which are offered across Europe for the first time on an A-segment Hyundai model.

TMW - Marshall's Motor Group, how to lose sales and alienate people.

Today is the second busiest day of the year for car sales, each year the 1st of September and the 1st March are number plate change days, so it is no surprise to find that a number of new cars are going to be handed over to eager and happy new owners, but before anyone hands over any money there is the usual tooing and froing of haggling, and freebies and so on, before the dealer then tries to get you to take out finance and various other high price low value extras that can be had elsewhere for far far less than the finance and extra packages the dealers try their damned hardest to sell you.

It is here then that my experience with a large motor group begins, I was some while ago registered disabled and therefore was unable to do a lot of the usual things that i loved to do, track days, road tests etc until I stabilised enough to be able to drive comfortably again, I was given a benefit that enabled me to get a car on what is called the motability scheme, a scheme that gets people back on the road in cars more suitable for their needs, and it was this scheme that got me into my first motability car.

I collected my MINI Countryman 2.0 Cooper SD ALL4, now that's a mouthful, about 14 months ago, and initially it was fine, it wasn't until a few weeks later that my back and hips began to hurt again, and after trying to work out why, it always happened after i had driven the car, it turned out that the MINI dealer that allowed us to have an extended drive in a Countryman had failed, on purpose I suspect, to advise that, that car had the run flat tyres removed, and on my car they would be added.

Over the following months i drove the car less and less until I was advised to contact motability to see if they could help, and they did, they advised that I could hand back the MINI at a nominal fee to me £100 (admin charges) and I could then locate another car that would now be better suited to me new needs, this was brilliant, the two people I spoke with at motability could not have been more helpful and pleasant, so I decided to take my time and locate a number of vehicles through the Internet, car magazines and personal taste that I think might be suitable and then go from their.

Within the motability website it clearly states and I quote

"To find out whether a car is suitable, it’s worth taking more than one test drive and to take your time during the session. A quick drive around the block may not be enough to get an idea of whether the car is right for you. It’s best to test out different types of roads, especially those you regularly use, including dual carriageways, minor roads with speed bumps and even places to park. If you regularly travel long distances, you will need a long test drive."

So off we went, I initially emailed a number of dealers Marshalls, Ford, Peugeot, Volvo Vindis Skoda and Cecil & Larter Volvo, all local dealers to me, the only one that ever got back to me was Vindis Skoda, and they refused point blank to allow me to have an extended test drive, stating their insurance does not cover it, but will sit beside me while i drove around, now don't get me wrong, for some that would be acceptable, but I don't like being in a car with car dealers as they talk to you and constantly want to point out the cars good points while getting you to avoid the poor points.

I get uncomfortable in the company of people I don't know, so driving with strangers does not make for a good combination, so I had to leave that, which was very unfortunate as I really liked the Skoda Yeti, and the 1.2 DSG SE would have been an ideal car, as long as was able to drive it comfortably, which I was not able to do, I have never come across ANY other dealer that wont do extended test drives especially for a motability customer.

Now on to Marshall's, for those not in the know, they are one of the biggest privately owned dealership chains in the UK, with many brands from Ford to Jaguar, Citroen to Land Rover and many more in between, the company started life in Cambridge and has the biggest multi-chain dealership area's with Land Rover, jaguar, Ford, Citroen, Volvo, SEAT, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, a used car site as well as commercial sales located behind the main sales area.

It has to be seen to be believed, and for the consumer it is great to have so much choice in a smallish area, but i digress, I visited all the dealers and narrowed it down to Ford and Volvo, I visited both, and spoke with sales staff at both, advised of what I wanted and why, both agreed that an extended drive would be no issue, but neither had the cars that i wanted to try, The Volvo V40 Cross Country D2 auto, and the Ford B-Max Titanium powershift and C-Max Powershift.

Both dealers agreed that they could get a car/s for me to try and that was that, I thought great, can't wait, I got an email later in the day from the Ford dealer with a C-Max brochure attached which I was aware would be coming, and that gave me plenty to read along with the B-Max literature I was given there, I was also given the V40 CC booklet to read whilst i waited for a car to arrive.

So I thought right, all I need to do now is wait to hear from the dealers, they have all my details, all my requirements, so there should be no issues, how wrong could I be, I got a call from the Volvo dealer the next day, asking why i visited the day before, and could he assist, I suppose it didn't help when he said he had no idea why I called in, and had no details about my visit, less than 24 hours previously, he was not aware that a car was being sourced for me to try or even that I was a motability customer, he said that he would locate the details and call me right back, that was nearly two weeks ago.

Ford on the other hand, was ok initially, i again advised what i needed and why, and the young lady said that she could locate the relevant cars for me to test, she even got online to show that these cars were available, she gave me the relevant costs involved, and was more than happy to assist, as I said above i got an email with the C-Max info attached, and that has been that, not a peep since, and again that was nearly two weeks ago.

The Ford dealership at Cambridge Marshall's used to be Rover-MG and I purchased a brand new MG ZS their back in 2004, the salesman  then was not to bright to be honest, he tried to fob off a damaged car (bonnet was dented) and said that if we waited he would swap with another one they had, WHAT, you serious, try and fob it off on another customer, was not happy, needless to say I did not do that and they never fixed it at first service like they said they would, I should have realised that, that dealership was not up to snuff.

Today 01/09/2013 we went for a walk, as it helps keep my muscles and other bits and pieces active, along the Marshalls dealerships, we popped into Volvo to see if the person i saw originally was there, which they were not, but the three guys in there, inspired little, they looked miserable and we never had a smile out of any of them, so we left and tried the new SEAT Leon, a lovely looking car, but i could not get in or out of it with ease, but the salesman there tried his best to gloss over that fact and encouraged us to buy the car.

Um, no, I cant get in or out without discomfort or without ease, so no, I am not getting this car, at which point he just walked away, no thank you, or if there is anything else etc, just walk away mid sentence, how bloody rude is that. I was losing the will to live by now, with rude salesmen, and three that really did not want to be there, let alone have anything to do with a customer, we walked past Citroen and got a hello and can we help, which we politely declined, but we still got a sweetie each.

Then to Ford, as We got to the wide opened door, I saw the salesman that sold me my MG, he saw me and slammed the door to the office he was in and the guy he was talking to turned to look our way and laughed, so Marshall's Ford, you can get stuffed, your attitude is diabolical, your staff are rude and ignorant and as far as I am concerned I will advise anyone that asks to avoid you, I am a customer, I have caused you no issues, I have never complained about you, or made any comments that would cause such rudeness.

The only thing that you did I did not like was to try and fob me off with damaged products and then to get round it swap it with someone else's car so they have a damaged one, and that's just not on, so i declined, on the assumption you would repair it which you never ever did, how is that these people are still employed, why is that the customer has to put up with such blatant rudeness, and why is that these dealers at marshall;;s never do what they say they are going to do.

For a supposed family run business, it is more like a couldn't care less about the customer business, and for someone that has issues which require specific needs it makes the whole episode stressful and one that now requires me to go further afield to get a car that i should be able to get just two minutes up the road,.

2014 Hyundai Elantra Mid Model Change Spied

Hmmm, let's see, Heated front seats - check!; Heated rear seats - check!; Heated steering wheel - check!; How about heated door handles? What about heated foot rest? I'd like a heated shifter.... what else can we heat?
The automobile spies have captured a heavily disguised Hyundai Elantra prototype undergoing testing on public roads in South Korea.

Revised to compete with the recently revised Honda Civic and the upcoming next-generation Toyota Corolla, Hyundai is giving the Elantra a subtle styling makeover to help keep it competitive with its big-selling Japanese rivals.

Underneath the heavy camouflage of this pre-production Elantra 4-door sedan is the new front fascia featuring a slightly updated hexagonal signature grille and revised headlights (with LED daytime running lights).

The front bumper appears to be slightly more aggressive too, while the car may also gain a set of restyled alloy-wheels.

Visual tweaks continue back at rear where you can notice a redesigned tailpipe along with revised bumper and new taillamps.

Turbo engine’s possible!
Under the hood, the revised Hyundai Elantra will likely gain a 1,6L T-GDI turbo engine, which is already available in the 2014 Kia Forte.

The highly-potent 1,6L GDI turbocharged unit generates 201-horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque.
Latest rumors also suggest that Hyundai might offer the 2014 Elantra facelift with a 2,0L GDI four-cylinder engine. The 173-horsepower engine is already available in a 2014 Kia Forte sedan (built on the same platform as Elantra).

The current 1,8L four-cylinder engine is expected to carry over from the current model.

Release date

The 2014 Elantra is scheduled to be officially unveiled later this year, while sales are expected to commence early next year.

Next-Gen Hyundai Genesis Coupe HND-9 Concept Previewed

by Viknesh Vijayenthiran of www.motorauthority.com

Hyundai is giving us our best look yet at the company’s next-generation Genesis Coupe with the new HND-9 concept car, previewed today ahead of its official debut at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show taking place in the Korean capital next week.

Most of the details are being kept secret until next week’s debut, though Hyundai has confirmed the HND-9 is equipped with a turbocharged and direct-injected 3.3-liter V-6 engine that delivers 362 horsepower.

This is the biggest indication yet that the new Genesis coupe, which is likely to arrive as a 2016 model, will offer a turbocharged V-6 option.

We’re also likely to see an eight-speed automatic fitted in the new Genesis Coupe, which the HND-9 concept is also sporting.

Thankfully, the concept also retains a rear-wheel-drive layout.

As its name suggests, the HND-9 is the ninth concept from Hyundai’s Namyang design center in Korea. It features the latest evolution of Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture design philosophy and its proportions, material choices and stylish lines all hint at the premium look and feel we can expect on the new Genesis Coupe.

Sleek character lines that stretch from headlamp to trunk, the voluminous body and striking, wide hexagonal-shaped radiator grille underscore the high performance image of the concept. And these are joined by butterfly doors, dual-exhausts tips on either side and integrated lights.

Stay tuned for the HND-9 concept’s debut at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show, which commences March 28.

As for the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe, expect this second-generation model to continue with four- and six-cylinder power, as well as manual and automatic transmissions. It will ride on a shortened version of the rear-wheel-drive platform set to debut in the 2014 Hyundai Genesis sedan due out later this year, and will likely debut sometime in 2015.
