A Performance Active Exhaust is also standard equipment.

First deliveries to UK customers of the new XK Signature and Dynamic R editions are expected in March.

XK POWERTRAIN AND DYNAMICS

Jaguar sports cars have a reputation for blending athletic high-performance with effortless cruising comfort. Nothing exemplifies this dual character more clearly than the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine fitted to both XK special edition cars.

Now in its third generation, this engine offers not only tremendous power but also great efficiency by incorporating the very latest technology including spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) and dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT). Like the car itself, the engine is constructed from high-grade, lightweight aluminum, which in the cylinder heads is recycled to reduce the environmental impact of manufacture.

The XK Signature can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds in CoupĂ© guise, and 5.3 seconds for the Convertible, each car producing a meaty 515Nm of torque. The top speed for both variants is electronically limited to 155mph and both cars produce just 264 g/km of CO2. The XK Dynamic R’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8, offers power and torque figures of 510PS and 625Nm respectively, taking the car to 60mph in just 4.6 seconds with a limited top speed of 174mph. Extremely powerful but also efficient, the XK Dynamic R emits 292g/km of CO2.

Both XK Dynamic R and Signature models are fitted with a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddles, which control the Jaguar Sequential Shift function for greater driver control.

The supercharged XK Dynamic R edition also benefits from Jaguar's Active Differential Control technology. This uses a multiplate clutch to vector torque to the driven wheel with the most grip. Allied to ABS and stability control, this allows for the ultimate in traction and precision both mid-corner and at its exit. The XK Signature model uses a mechanical differential, which delivers outstanding levels of grip and stability under power.

Both cars feature Dynamic Stability Control system, which offers four modes: Normal, Winter, TracDSC and DSC Off, allowing the enthusiastic driver to choose the level of intervention dependent on road conditions.

The double wishbone front suspension on both cars features a fully-machined steering knuckle which significantly increases camber and castor stiffness by 0.13 degrees per kilo newton, to transform the accuracy and weighting of the steering for greater levels of connection, feedback and precision. Rear suspension geometry benefits from rear wheel steer - optimised for maximum agility.

The XK Dynamic R features as standard the Black Dynamic Pack – incorporating suspension technology from the XKR-S – which adds a stiffer knuckle for improved steering precision, uprated spring and damper settings and Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics system, which performs three main functions; controlling vertical body movement, roll and pitch rates. One hundred times every second, Adaptive Dynamics analyses the thousands of inputs and variables which determine ride and handling characteristics. Additionally, the XK Dynamic R’s ride height is lowered by 10mm, giving the car more of an assertive presence on the road. The Dynamic R also comes as standard with Speed Pack, which increases the maximum speed from 155mph to an electronically limited 174mph. In addition to the increased maximum speed, the pack also includes a body-coloured Aerodynamic Pack with front splitter and larger rear spoiler, as well as a body-coloured rear diffuser and side sill extensions. A Performance Active Exhaust is also fitted as standard.

INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DETAILS

Standard on the XK Signature are Luxury seats available in Ivory or Charcoal soft grain leather. The interior also features Canvas Suedecloth headlining, Figured Ebony veneers and Bright Metal sport pedals.

The XK Dynamic R boasts Jaguar’s new diamond sewn Performance seat in either Ivory/Charcoal soft grain leather with Ivory contrast stitch or Charcoal/Red soft grain leather with Red contrast stitch leather. Featuring integrated head restraints and increased lateral and squab support, the new seats hold driver and passenger securely and comfortably in place. The 16-way adjustment of squab, cushion, lumbar and bolster elements is supplemented by memory and heating functions. The interior Jet Suedecloth headliner is complemented with Piano Black veneers. Bright Metal sport pedals are also fitted as standard.

The central seven-inch touch-screen provides an intuitive interface for the extensive technology that is seamlessly incorporated into the XK, including iPod and USB connectivity and satellite navigation with DVD mapping. The central screen also projects the image from the new Reverse Park Camera, which is fitted as standard to both special edition cars.

The XK Signature comes with 20’’ Kalimnos wheels as standard, with 20” Takoba wheels available as an option, while the XK Dynamic R has 20” Vortex diamond turned wheels – with distinctive Red painted brake calipers – and the option of 20” Vulcan Gloss Black lightweight alloys.

Both the XK Signature and Dynamic R editions are available with a choice of exterior body colours – Polaris White, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Italian Racing Red, Dark Sapphire and British Racing Green.

NAIAS - Lexus launches Most powerful V8 ever in the new RC F

  • RC F equipped with Lexus’s most powerful V8 engine to date, generating in excess of 450bhp
  • World-first use of a Torque Vectoring Differential in a front engine/rear-wheel drive sports car
  • Powerful exterior styling, incorporating advanced, race-bred aerodynamics
  • Bespoke interior with RC F-dedicated instrumentation, seats and finishes
  • Debut at the North American International Auto Show on the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Lexus brand

Lexus today revealed the RC F, a high-performance version of its new RC coupe, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The unveiling coincided with the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Lexus brand at same event.

The great visual impact of the RC F is matched by the impressive power of its new 5.0-litre engine. Generating well in excess of 450bhp, it makes the RC F the most powerful V8 performance model Lexus has yet produced.

To harness the engine’s potential with the best possible efficiency, the RC F uses a newly calibrated eight-speed transmission and, in a world first for a front engine/rear-wheel drive car, a Torque Vectoring Differential to secure higher levels of traction and vehicle control.

Yukihiko Yaguchi, RC F Chief Engineer, said: “I’ve built the RC F to be enjoyed by all enthusiasts, no matter what their level of expertise. There’s a false perception that racing cars are hard o drive. In fact, they’re easy in the right hands because they’ve been purpose-built for the skill level of their drivers. It’s the same with the RC F. Electronics can be modified instantly on board to provide appropriate levels of performance and protection. But even at its basic setting, it’s a blast!”

ALL-NEW HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE

At the heart of the new RC F is a 5.0-litre 32-valve engine developing more than 450bhp and 520Nm of torque. Its cylinder heads and all moving parts have been newly designed to deliver more power at higher engine revs than has previously been possible.

It is also the first Lexus performance engine to use the Atkinson cycle at cruising speeds, to secure better fuel economy, switching to the Otto cycle at higher revs to achieve impressive levels of performance.

The engine has been developed exclusively for the RC F and every aspect of the powertrain has been design to deliver the highest possible driver engagement, including the transmission and exhaust system.

The specially calibrated eight-speed Sports Direct Shift transmission improves linear response to accelerator pedal inputs, giving the driver more precise control of power and torque delivery.

The RC F driving experience is further heightened by a new system that regulates induction and exhaust sound, creating a deep tone up to 3,000rpm, and a higher-pitched note at as revs rise beyond 6,000rpm under hard acceleration.

Torque Vectoring Differential

The RC F marks a world-first for a front engine/rear-wheel drive car with its use of a Torque Vectoring Differential. Designed to raise driving enjoyment by increasing traction and control, the system has three operating modes: -

  • Standard, for a balance of agile performance and high-speed stability
  • Slalom, for an emphasis on nimble response to steering inputs
  • Track, for consistent, stable cornering in circuit driving, with optimum driver control. The RC F also has a recalibrated Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system with an additional vertical G-force sensor to secure even greater vehicle stability

Driving Dynamics

The foundation of the new RC F’s outstanding mechanical grip is its highly rigid body, featuring large cross-section rocker panels and front lower brace. Lexus has deployed numerous specialist manufacturing techniques to further enhance rigidity, including the use of body adhesives, laser-screw welding and multi-spot welding. A wider tyre and wheel assembly help to raise grip performance.

Independent, coil-sprung suspension is used front and rear, incorporating monotube gas dampers and ball-jointed anti-roll bars. The car’s unsprung weight has been kept down by using 19-inch forged aluminium alloy wheels, which minimise wheel assembly mass while at the same time improving rigidity.

As in the Lexus LFA supercar, the RC F is fitted with an active rear wing, Incorporated in the bootlid, this provides additional downforce at speeds above 50mph. The rear wings is a highlight of the RC F’s comprehensive aerodynamic grip and stability package, which also includes tuning of the flat underbody, race-bred air management ducts behind the front bumpers and wings, and strategic placement of aero stabilising fins.

F performance styling

The RC F is immediately distinguishable from the RC coupe thanks to its more powerful visual impact.

It features its own interpretation of the Lexus signature spindle grille, which dominates the front of the vehicle and has a subtle ‘F’ motif embedded in the mesh below the Lexus badge.

The front of the bonnet is set higher than on the RC, creating a powerful, flared profile that’s in keeping with its status as a Lexus F model. The profile view is rendered more striking by the 10-spoke 19-inch forged aluminium wheels, three versions of which will be available, including one that’s hand-polished by craftsmen.

The design takes some cues from the LFA, most notably in the use of essential air cooling and aerodynamic features. Air outlets on the bonnet, like those on the LFA, work together with front cooling ducts to support both engine cooling and overall vehicle stability.

To the side there are air outlets behind the front wings that add to the engine and brake cooling performance, and which merge neatly with side sill extensions to create a powerful ‘L’ shape.

The powerful look continues at the rear of the car, with stacked, quad trapezoidal exhaust outlets.

Lightweight carbon fibre package

Lexus drew on the experience it gained with the LFA and the IS F CCS-R race car to develop a package of carbon fibre parts that help keep the RC F’s weight to a minimum. The carbon fibre elements include the roof, bonnet and active rear wing.

Interior design

The RC F’s interior is driver focused and equipped with numerous components specific to the model, including the instrument meters, steering wheel, seats, pedals and trim, all designed to deliver the kind of comfort, support and ergonomics expected of a high-performance Lexus F model.

The instrument meters mark a further development of the switchable, diving mode-dependent central dial featured in the LFA. The design is inspired by aircraft cockpit instrumentation, providing a wide range of information in a clear, concise form that can be read at a glance.

The instrumentation includes a large, centrally mounted tachometer changes according to driving mode; digital and analogue speed read-outs; a differential torque vectoring monitor; a G-force meter; oil and water temperature gauges; mileage information; and a stopwatch.

Lexus has also worked to provide an ergonomically ideal driver-machine interface. The RC F marks Lexus’s first use of a thick-grip steering wheel with an elliptical cross-section, design to provide greater control during performance driving. The location, shape and action of the addle shifts have also been carefully determined to enable fast, accurate gear changes at all times.

The seat designs, with styling influenced by modern close-fitting sportswear, feature high backs that use Lexus’s integrated foaming technique to provide excellent support, eliminating any movement between the seat padding and trim.

The all-aluminium F-TYPE CoupĂ© – the most dynamically capable, performance-focused sports car that Jaguar has ever produced – is available in three versions: F-TYPE R, F-TYPE S and the F-TYPE.

The range-topping F-TYPE R CoupĂ© is powered by Jaguar’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine in 550PS/680Nm tune, delivering acceleration to 60mph in 4.0-seconds, and a top speed of 186mph (electronically limited).

The F-TYPE S CoupĂ© and F-TYPE CoupĂ© are powered by Jaguar’s 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engines in 380PS/460Nm and 340PS/450Nm forms respectively, giving 0-60mph in 4.8/5.1-seconds and top speeds of 171/161mph.

The F-TYPE CoupĂ© embodies the uncompromised design vision of the stunning Jaguar C-X16 concept sports coupĂ© that debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, its dramatic cabin-rearward stance being defined by three heartlines. The first two heartlines – shared with F-TYPE Convertible – form the muscular front and rear wings, the third heartline being the sweeping CoupĂ© roof profile which provides an unbroken silhouette while emphasising the visual drama of the tapered cabin sitting between powerful rear haunches.

“The F-TYPE CoupĂ© provides its driver with a unique sports car experience. It combines seductive design with cutting-edge technology and performance which is truly breathtaking. Engaging, precise, intuitive and alive – it is the definitive sports CoupĂ©.”
Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director, Jaguar Land Rover

Jaguar’s expertise in aluminium technology has enabled the design vision for the F-TYPE CoupĂ© to be delivered in a lightweight yet extremely strong bodyshell. Torsional rigidity for all F-TYPE CoupĂ© variants is 33,000 Nm/degree – greater than in any previous production Jaguar – this rigidity providing the basis for excellent dynamic attributes.

The F-TYPE CoupĂ©’s body side is made from a single-piece aluminium pressing, probably the most extreme cold-formed aluminium body side in the automotive industry, eliminating the requirement for multiple panels and cosmetic joints. The roof panel itself is available in either aluminium or panoramic glass form. A deployable rear spoiler sits within the tapered shut-line of the F-TYPE CoupĂ©, while slim, wrap-around LED lamps flank a beautifully engineered tailgate, with optional powered open/close functionality.

To deliver assured, progressive handling in line with its 550PS output, the range-topping F-TYPE R CoupĂ© features a bespoke suspension set-up and new dynamic technologies. These include a second-generation Electronic Active Differential (EAD) and – for the first time on a Jaguar – Torque Vectoring by braking, these systems working in parallel to provide immediacy of response and exploitable handling. The EAD system automatically redistributes engine torque between the rear wheels to ensure excellent on-the-limit control, while Torque Vectoring by braking intelligently applies precisely metered braking force to the inner wheels as necessary during cornering to enhance agility. Sports suspension with Adaptive Dynamics damping and Configurable Dynamic Mode further enhance the F-TYPE R’s immediacy of response, providing an exhilarating and involving driving experience.

F-TYPE R and F-TYPE S Coupé models also have the option of Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes which offer absolute consistency of performance and excellent fade resistance, as well as a total unsprung-weight saving of 21kg.

Every F-TYPE CoupĂ© model utilises Jaguar’s eight-speed close-ratio Quickshift transmission which is optimised for sporting performance, with full manual sequential control from the central SportShift selector or steering wheel-mounted paddles.

The F-TYPE Coupé range complements the existing three-car F-TYPE Convertible model line-up; the V6-engined F-TYPE (340PS) and F-TYPE S (380PS), and the 495PS F-TYPE V8 S.

“With F-TYPE CoupĂ©, the Jaguar engineering team has exceeded our considerable target of building a car that delivers even more driver reward than the acclaimed F-TYPE Convertible. Engineering an exceptionally rigid all-aluminium CoupĂ© body structure was the key to achieving this, as it’s the fundamental basis for enhanced dynamic attributes. The result is that the F-TYPE CoupĂ© is the most dynamically capable and involving Jaguar we’ve ever built.”
Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar

F-TYPE COUPÉ: DESIGN AND STRUCTURE

Visual appeal is fundamental to Jaguar and, as such, the F-TYPE CoupĂ© is immediately recognisable, building on the design of the stunning C-X16 concept sports CoupĂ© and the F-TYPE Convertible – winner of the 2013 ‘World Car Design of the Year’ award.

“Creating a sports CoupĂ© is the purest of design tasks, and also the most challenging; get it right and aesthetically the result will be as dynamic as the car should be rewarding to drive. In F-TYPE CoupĂ©, I believe we’ve got it right.

The purity of the C-X16 concept has been retained without compromise; the F-TYPE CoupĂ©’s long bonnet, low roofline and tapering cabin inspire me every time I see it.”
Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar

The F-TYPE CoupĂ© visual message is defined by three key ‘heartlines’, that visual message beginning with the formidable grille. It is from the twin ‘shark gill’ openings that sit either side of the grille that the essential first heartline – which mirrors the design of the F-TYPE Convertible – flows and begins to take shape. Running up through the headlamp, and accentuated by the LED ‘J blade’ daylight running lamps, the line then arcs up over the front wheelarch before dropping elegantly as it runs through the door, washing out into the muscular rear haunch.

The CoupĂ©’s second heartline, also shared with the Convertible, begins at the rear edge of the door, swelling outwards and upwards to create a visually strong wheelarch, emphasising the car’s rear-wheel drive layout, before dropping vertically through the tail lamp.

The third heartline forms the CoupĂ©’s dramatic, cabin-rearward, sweeping roof profile. Providing an unbroken silhouette, it highlights the visual drama of the tapered cabin nestled between the powerful rear haunches. The distinctive side window graphic, finished as standard in bright aluminium, accentuates both the compactness of the car and the roof profile.

Jaguar's expertise in aluminium vehicle architecture has been essential in enabling both the F-TYPE CoupĂ©’s uncompromised design aesthetic, while delivering the fundamental dynamic attributes – essential to any sports car – of low mass and an extremely rigid body. Measuring 33,000 Nm/degree, the F-TYPE CoupĂ© is the most torsionally rigid production car Jaguar has ever built.

A fundamental requirement for excellent dynamic attributes, delivering that rigidity figure required some innovative engineering solutions in order to maximise strength without impacting on the design vision. Due to the lack of B-pillars, Jaguar’s engineers were presented with the challenge of keeping the design’s sleek, pillarless, low roofline – combined with the need to create the optimum amount of interior space – while still achieving the necessary rigidity and strength targets. The solution was a high-strength, hydro-formed aluminium alloy beam which runs from the front of the A-pillar through to the back of the D-pillar, through the door opening line and back to the rear quarter window.

The F-TYPE CoupĂ© is available with either aluminium or panoramic glass roof panels that are bonded into the main roof structure – torsional rigidity is identical regardless of which roof is fitted.

The F-TYPE CoupĂ©’s dramatic body sides are single-piece aluminium pressings – probably the most extreme cold-formed aluminium body side outer panels in the automotive industry. These exceptionally deep-draw aluminium pressings have totally eliminated the requirement for joints in the panel surface. The body side panel is fabricated from high-strength and formable AC600 aluminium, which has also been used for structural reinforcement – both engineering firsts for Jaguar. The use of AC300 T61 aluminium in the body structure of the car provides additional strength thanks to its energy absorbing properties, ensuring maximum occupant protection.

In order to achieve the required aesthetic at the rear of the car, the F-TYPE Coupé features a hidden rear spoiler that sits within the tapered shut-line of the tailgate, and rises at speed in order to balance front and rear lift. The spoiler automatically rises at 70mph and lowers when the speed drops below 50mph, reducing lift by up to 120kg.

The width of the tail is emphasised by the slim, full-LED lamps that wrap all the way around the wings almost to the trailing edge of the rear wheelarches. These lamps feature hidden-until-lit technology, appearing solid until one of their functions is activated. The F-TYPE CoupĂ© also features a ‘ribbon of light’ LED high-mounted stop light, which is hidden at the top of the beautifully engineered tailgate. The tailgate, available with powered open/close functionality, is made from composite materials, the boot-volume itself being up to 407-litres*.

Aluminium forms a significant part of Jaguar's commitment to sustainability with up to half the content of the body coming from recycled metal. In addition, the F-TYPE CoupĂ©'s structure is exclusively riveted and bonded – this manufacturing process emits up to 80% less CO2 compared to that from welding a comparable steel structure. Jaguar is also rolling out its closed-loop aluminium recycling system to its suppliers, ensuring all offcuts of metal from the manufacturing process are reused.

F-TYPE R COUPÉ

The F-TYPE R CoupĂ© represents the pinnacle of the F-TYPE range. Powered by Jaguar’s 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8 all-aluminium engine in 550PS and 680Nm form, the F-TYPE R CoupĂ© achieves headline figures of 0-60mph in 4.0-seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 186mph, 50-75mph taking a mere 2.4-seconds. CO2 emissions are 259g/km.

“The F-TYPE R CoupĂ© represents the pinnacle of Jaguar’s R Performance range – its power, performance and immediacy of response will reward the most enthusiastic of drivers while, most importantly, we’ve engineered the chassis to provide exploitable handling that inspires confidence. It’s precise, and it’s fast… a true driver’s car.”
Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity, Jaguar

The R CoupĂ©’s supercharged engine delivers not only exhilarating performance but also tremendous efficiency thanks to the technologies incorporated into it, including spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) and dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT). The high-pressure die-cast lightweight aluminium block is stiffened with cast-iron liners and cross-bolted main bearing caps, providing refinement to match its power. The four-valve cylinder heads are constructed from high-grade, bespoke aluminium, between them sitting the Roots-type twin vortex supercharger fed by two intercoolers, which feature their own water-cooling circuit to reduce the temperature of the pressurised air, thereby optimising power and efficiency.

The torsional rigidity of the F-TYPE R CoupĂ©’s aluminium structure has ensured the best possible basis for offering the connected feel, agility and engaging driving experience expected of a Jaguar sports car. Every response, from the steering to the gearchange, throttle, brakes and the all-round double wishbone suspension, has been finely honed to be accurate, involving and immediate.

The F-TYPE R CoupĂ© is fitted with Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics system that actively controls vertical body movement, roll and pitch rates. The system continuously monitors driver inputs and the attitude of the car on the road, adjusting damper rates accordingly up to 500 times a second to optimise stability. For the F-TYPE R, the Adaptive Dynamics controlling software has a bespoke tune, working in tandem with revised spring rates all-round to deliver consistent, progressive and exploitable handling. Spring rates are increased by 4.3% at the front and 3.7% at the rear (compared to F-TYPE V8 S Convertible).

Engaging Dynamic mode delivers an even more focused driving experience thanks to enhanced body control through firmer damping rates, increased steering weighting, faster gear changes and sharper throttle response. In the F-TYPE R Coupé, Dynamic mode is configurable as standard via the central 8in touchscreen, allowing the driver to select and save settings according to their preference.

In addition to the fundamental suspension tune changes, the F-TYPE R Coupé features a new second-generation Electronic Active Differential which, for the first time on a Jaguar, works in conjunction with Torque Vectoring by braking. Together, the two systems ensure agility at all speeds and exploitable on-the-limit handling.

The F-TYPE R CoupĂ©’s Electronic Active Differential (EAD) builds on the progressive handling advantages of a mechanical limited-slip differential by intelligently controlling the amount of driveline torque fed to each wheel. The EAD utilises an electric motor which operates a multiplate clutch; by rapidly and continuously analysing a range of electronic inputs it is able to immediately vary torque transfer to each driven wheel to maximise traction in any condition.

The EAD system fitted to the F-TYPE R CoupĂ© features a highly sophisticated second-generation controller. It continuously estimates surface friction, comparing that to the driver’s torque demand and delivering accurate locking torque as a result. A new handling controller also means the EAD has the ability to match the car’s response more accurately with the driver’s inputs during both on-power understeer or off-power oversteer conditions. Working in parallel with the Torque Vectoring by braking system, the controller is capable of reacting to the ECU’s torque request – ranging from open to full locking torque – in under 200 milliseconds.

Torque Vectoring by braking – a standard feature on F-TYPE R CoupĂ© – applies finely metered braking torque individually to the inner wheels as necessary, helping to turn the car into corners more precisely. Using the F-TYPE R CoupĂ©’s array of electronic sensors, the Torque Vectoring system determines when corner entry speed may induce understeer. It then calculates the level of brake force needed to correct the car’s direction and, via the ABS system, applies that precise braking force to individual inner wheels as necessary. Torque Vectoring by braking works at a subtle level, both correctively and predictively, finely adjusting the trajectory of the F-TYPE R CoupĂ© for optimal handling.

The F-TYPE R’s EAD and Torque Vectoring by braking systems – which work together with the car’s Dynamic Stability Control system – complement each other to optimise traction, cornering ability and, most importantly, to maximise steering feel and agility. Torque Vectoring by braking works to fine-tune trajectory around a corner, and as the car is pushed further to its limits, there is a natural, seamless transition to EAD.

As a result, the use of available grip is always optimised, enabling the F-TYPE R Coupé to carry more speed both into, through and out of corners, while delivering precision handling during high-speed manoeuvres.

The F-TYPE R CoupĂ© uses Jaguar’s Super Performance braking system as standard. This system features 380mm front and 376mm rear discs – with red or black painted calipers. Brake cooling is optimised via under-body channelling of air, the air-flow being derived through the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis.

The R Coupé is also available with optional Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes which offer consistent performance and excellent fade resistance even during extreme performance driving conditions, while retaining the precise pedal feel of the standard system and extending disc life in everyday driving use.

The F-TYPE’s eight-speed 'Quickshift' transmission has been recalibrated to make the best use of the F-TYPE R CoupĂ©’s 550PS engine. Its eight, closely-stacked, sporting ratios help to fully exploit the engine’s rev range and ensure that it remains within its optimal power band with every gearchange. Manual control is available to the driver at any time, using either the steering wheel-mounted paddles or the central SportShift selector.

The F-TYPE R CoupĂ©’s switchable Active Sports Exhaust system – with its signature quad, outboard-mounted tailpipes – takes the aural excitement delivered by the 550PS engine to new levels. It offers an authentic, rich sound, developing to a howling crescendo as the upper limits of the rev range are reached. The system uses electronically controlled bypass valves in the rear section of the exhaust which are mapped to open according to a range of parameters, effectively altering the exhaust gas routing into a free-flowing straight-through arrangement to both reduce back pressure and enhance sound quality. Selecting Dynamic mode also opens the bypass valves, an optional override button enabling further driver control of the system.

The F-TYPE R CoupĂ©’s aerodynamic bodywork – gloss black front vanes beneath the shark gills and flat side sill extensions – aid its stability at the very high speeds of which it is capable. As standard the R CoupĂ©’s window finishes are highlighted in bright anodised aluminium along the frames of the side glass, with the grille surround and side air vents in bright chrome, while the optional Black Pack adds gloss black window finishers, gloss black side power air vents and a gloss black grille surround. The front splitter, side power vents, door mirrors casings, bonnet power vents and engine cover are also available in carbon fibre.

20in ‘Gyrodyne’ wheels in silver finish are standard on the F-TYPE R CoupĂ©, while a dark grey and diamond-turned version is optional. As on any F-TYPE specified with 20in wheels, the F-TYPE R CoupĂ© is available with optional ultra-high performance tyres which, with a unique tread pattern, offer additional steering precision, and increased levels of grip for the enthusiast driver.

Interior

Like all models in the F-TYPE range, the R CoupĂ©’s driver-focused cabin clearly conveys the car’s pedigree and sporting prowess, through a combination of taut, technical styling, involving interfaces and premium materials and textures.

The F-TYPE R CoupĂ©’s Performance seats have inflatable side-bolstering and prominent wings for support during high-speed cornering. The seats are finished in premium leather, with the ‘R’ logo embossed on the headrest. A pure ‘Jet’ interior colourway is offered with three options of contrast stitching – Ivory, Red or Firesand – on the instrument panels, door casings, grab-handle highlight and cubby box. There are a further three sporting options on the Jet seats – Ivory, Camel or Red duo-tones, each with similarly-matched contrast stitching.

The F-TYPE R CoupĂ©’s premium trim also includes leather on the instrument panel and binnacle, armrests, door inserts and the centre console. Leather or Suedecloth headlinings are optional. The driver-focused cockpit conveys its sporting intentions with a small-diameter, flat-bottomed steering wheel wrapped in Jet leather with the R logo. A round wheel is a no-cost option.

A new, full leather and Suedecloth Jet interior (with Cirrus contrast stitch) is also optional on all derivatives. Suedecloth is used on the seat facings, door casings, instrument binnacle pods and headlining – and can also be combined with a Suedecloth steering wheel.

F-TYPE COUPÉ AND S COUPÉ

The Jaguar F-TYPE CoupĂ© is also available in two V6-supercharged powered petrol variants, both driving the rear wheels through eight-speed Quickshift transmissions; the F-TYPE CoupĂ© and the F-TYPE S CoupĂ©. Featuring the same rigid yet lightweight CoupĂ© bodyshell as the F-TYPE R, and combined with a finely tuned focus on ride, handling and performance, both the F-TYPE CoupĂ© and F-TYPE S CoupĂ© are true drivers’ cars.

The F-TYPE CoupĂ© is powered by Jaguar’s 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine in 340PS/450Nm tune, and is capable of 0-60mph in 5.1-seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 161 mph. Standard features include Dynamic Mode, sports exhaust – both V6 models use twin, centrally-mounted tailpipes – sports suspension and Jaguar’s Performance Braking system (354/325mm discs front/rear) with silver calipers. The F-TYPE CoupĂ© is fitted as standard with 18in Vela wheels, partial leather/Suedecloth sports seats and a leather steering wheel with black paddles.

The F-TYPE S CoupĂ©, powered by Jaguar’s 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine in 380PS/460Nm tune is capable of 0-60mph in 4.8-seconds on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 171 mph. It features Dynamic Mode, Dynamic Launch, Active Sports Exhaust, sports suspension with Adaptive Dynamics, Jaguar’s High Performance Braking system (380/325mm discs front/rear) with red calipers and a mechanical limited-slip differential. Both Jaguar’s Super Performance and CCM braking systems are optional. The F-TYPE S CoupĂ© is fitted as standard with 19in Propeller wheels, leather sports seats and a leather steering wheel with Ignis paddles.

All F-TYPE models – CoupĂ© and Convertible – are equipped with Jaguar's Intelligent Stop/Start system which, when conditions allow, automatically shuts down the engine when the car comes to a halt and the driver's foot is on the brake pedal. When the brake is released, the system can restart the engine in less time than it takes for the driver’s foot to move from the brake to the accelerator. The system offers fuel economy and emissions benefits of up to 5 per cent.

The F-TYPE CoupĂ© model range is available with three audio systems, two of which come from globally recognised British experts Meridian. These offer either 10 or 12 loudspeakers with outputs of 380W and 770W respectively. The Meridian systems benefit from the company’s huge experience in digital signal processing to create audio reproduction that is second to none. The top of the range offering also features Meridian’s proprietary Trifield technology, which delivers an authentic and consistent surround sound to both occupants.

CARBON CERAMIC MATRIX BRAKES

The F-TYPE R and S CoupĂ© models have an exclusive option of Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes. Vivid yellow monoblock calipers – six-piston at the front and four-piston at the rear – grip 398mm front and 380mm rear brake discs made from a matrix of carbon fibre and ceramic, which is extremely hard and highly resistant to wear.

The CCM system offers consistent performance and excellent fade resistance even during sustained extreme driving conditions, while retaining the precise pedal feel of the standard system. Reduced wear and tear in day-to-day driving also means extended disc life.

CCM brakes offer considerable weight savings over standard steel brakes – the overall 21kg reduction in unsprung weight further enhancing handling dynamics. As CCM brakes generate more surface temperature than steel brakes, open-air intakes on the bumper and deflectors on the anti-roll bar direct increased airflow to the braking system – the attention to detail even extending to the use of new, heat-resistant valve caps.

CCM brakes feature a pre-fill system function that applies a low brake pressure to all four calipers when the throttle is released – and before the brake pedal is pressed again. The pre-fill system ensures a consistent brake pedal feel, and is tuned for speed proportionality. This means that at higher speeds it will give a consistently sharp, confidence-inspiring response, while at low car park type speeds the system will provide a more comfort-biased pedal feel.

Specify CCM brakes and the F-TYPE R or S CoupĂ© will come with 20in ‘Storm’ wheels. As standard these are in a satin grey anthracite finish, but an optional, forged version with gloss black/diamond-turned finish is offered.

CCM brakes are now also optional on F-TYPE S and V8 S Convertible models.

Jaguar F-Type coupe spied yet again, its looking very nice.

Jaguar-F-Type-Coupe-pics-1
Last we reported about the upcoming Jaguar F-Type Coupe was in July this year. After a barren period of almost 3 months, yet another set of spy pics of the upcoming F Type variant has surfaced on the cyber space.
Our guess is that the upcoming Jag would be showcased at the next Detroit Motor Show and could go on sale towards the advent of next fiscal.
The Jaguar F-Type can be safely credited with resurrecting Jaguar’s heartland: that of a two-seater, convertible sports car focused on delivering scintillating performance, class leading handling manners and overall driving pleasure. Don’t get us wrong for we do realize that nothing can be a true successor of the legendary E-Type but the new F-Type is definitely one of the finest motors to have ever come from the British auto maker.
jaguar f type coupe pics 1
The Jaguar F Type convertible has won many accolades from various publications and auto experts and the coupe should be no different. The F-Type coupe will share its engine options with the convertible. The V6 engine that powers the F-Type displaces 3.0 litres and is forced fed by a supercharger. The engine has a max power output of 380PS. The F-Type V6 S has an electronically limited top whack of 275 kmph. The V8 that powers the new F Type displaces 5.0 litres and gets a supercharger. The engine has a max power of 495PS. Both the engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that transmits power to the rear wheels.
It is being said that the coupe could be launched with a 2 litre turbocharged petrol engine that will be the entry level engine option. The 4 pot motor will have a max power of 240 Bhp. The F-Type coupe takes design inspiration from the Jaguar C-X16 concept.

LEXUS #3 - Upgraded 2014 Lexus LS flagship pushed luxury, further.

  • New Siri® Eyes Free mode, with technology from Apple®
  • Regular or long wheelbase, rear wheel drive or all-weather drive
  • F SPORT model has special suspension, 19-inch wheels, Brembo brakes
  • LS 600h L combines Hybrid Synergy Drive, long wheelbase

The 2014 Lexus LS flagship sedans, descendants of the car that turned “heritage” on its head more than 20 years ago, hold a special place in the premium luxury category. Distinctive design, made even more so in the LS redesign for 2013, envelops an impeccable blend of performance, luxury craftsmanship and technological innovation.

The first Lexus LS ushered in a new era in luxury car performance by making a powerful V8 engine standard at a time when European premium luxury cars offered a V8 as an option. The V8 performance advantage continues for the 2014 LS models, a contrast to several competitors that have reverted to standard six-cylinder engines in their flagship sedans. Responsive power and swift, nearly silent acceleration remain trademarks of all LS models.

The 2014 Lexus LS line includes the LS 460 in regular and long-wheelbase versions with a 386 horsepower 4.6-liter V8 (360 hp with all-wheel drive) and the LS 600h L hybrid with 438 total system horsepower from a 5-liter V8 paired with an electric motor. The LS 600h L is available exclusively with all-weather drive and is also the best-equipped LS in standard form.

Convenience and ease of use make another leap in the 2014 Lexus LS with the addition of available Siri® Eyes Free Mode technology licensed from Apple®. Compatible with the iPhone® 4S and iPhone 5 models forward, Siri lets you call contacts, select and play music from iTunes®, get turn-by-turn navigation through Siri and Apple maps, and much more. To help you keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel, Siri can read notifications and calendar information and allow you to add reminders, calendar appointments and notes.

Face Recognition
The new-generation Lexus LS design is at once bold and efficient. The signature spindle grille provides instant brand recognition, and while pleasing the eyes, the LS design cheats the wind with a very low 0.26 coefficient of drag. Discretely placed stabilizing fins on the body contribute to that low number and also help enhance high-speed control and handling.

The Lexus LS beckons the driver to savor curved roads a bit more thanks to significant enhancements in driving dynamics. The standard frequency-dependent shock absorbers, for example, help deliver flatter, road-hugging handling while also smoothing out rough surfaces. Available air suspension delivers an uncannily smooth ride while preserving the enhanced agility of the new-generation LS.

F SPORT for Road Lovers
How do you turn up the handling prowess in a premium luxury sedan and still preserve the ultra-smooth, quiet ride quality? It’s not an easy proposition, as introducing any harshness can “cheapen” the feel of a premium car. Lexus found the ideal balance with the LS F SPORT.

Sitting 0.4 inches lower on its sport-tuned air suspension and 19-inch forged alloy wheels, the F SPORT treatment gives the LS decidedly sportier driving performance. Yet, the Lexus trademark smooth, quiet ride remains intact. The contribution of high-performance hardware like the Torsen® limited slip rear differential (RWD model) and Brembo six-piston caliper brakes remains seamless. The F SPORT is also available with all-weather drive.

Inside, the Alcantara headliner, aluminum trim and leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters readily identify the F SPORT as the driving enthusiast’s LS. Yet, comfort remains pure Lexus.

The F SPORT tastefully “sportifies” the LS exterior design. The unique front fascia shows off an exclusive mesh version of the spindle grille with black grille surround, larger air intake openings and round fog lamps. A chrome-plated bar running along the bottom edge of the rear bumper conveys the lowered center of gravity.

Driver-Tailored Performance
Personalizing the Lexus LS starts with a wide selection of exterior color and interior finishes. Personalization continues behind the wheel with the Drive Mode Select dial on the center console. The driver can tailor the car’s performance to driving style or mood by selecting one of three settings – “Normal,” “Eco” or “Sport S.” The system automatically adjusts several performance parameters, including shift points and throttle response. “Eco” prioritizes fuel efficiency, while “Sport” quickens responses for a livelier feeling. Models equipped with the air suspension offer two additional drive settings, “Comfort” and “Sport S+.”

Luxury in the Obvious and in the Details
Since the introduction of the original LS more than 20 years ago, the Lexus flagship sedan has continually raised the bar for interior comfort, quietness and standard luxury amenities. Heated and ventilated front seats, with 16-way power adjustment for the driver and 12-way for the passenger, are standard. The redesign brought improved comfort for long-distance drives, as well as larger heating and cooling areas and quicker heating and cooling times.

Lexus long ago mastered the art of luxury nuance and continues to hone its expertise in this area, an excellent example being the Advanced Illumination System (AIS). This all-LED interior lighting system illuminates to greet the approaching driver and passengers and then fades in sequence with the vehicle starting procedure – reminiscent of sequential light fading prior to a stage play or symphony performance.

Lexus pioneered new body construction techniques to minimize noise, and that spirit of innovation continues in the new-generation LS, which employs a special noise-reduction wheel design. As the car drives, resonant noise is channeled from the main air chamber to adjacent hollow areas within the wheels via resonator hole cutting a significant source of road noise.

The Lexus LS personalizes passenger comfort with the available Lexus Climate Concierge. This four-zone system lets occupants set temperature preferences for the main climate control system, the climate control seats and, for the driver, the heated steering wheel. Multiple sensors throughout the cabin ensure that the system reaches heating/cooling preferences quickly.

Craftsmanship throughout the cabin reflects an obsessive focus on materials and details. For example, Lexus craftsmen take 38 days to create the available Shimamoku (“striped wood”) Espresso wood steering wheel and matching trim. It’s an exhaustive 67-step process of layering dark- and light-shaded veneers to create this one-of-a-kind wood finish. The finished product is simply stunning.

Useful Technology That’s Easy to Use
As luxury brands have been adding new and sometimes complex technologies, Lexus continues to find an ideal balance of usefulness and usability. Navigation is standard on all LS models. The 12.3-inch, split-screen, high-resolution multi-media display is large enough to simultaneously show a map display on one side and selectable vehicle functions on the other.

Steering wheel buttons provide quick, easy access to frequently used functions in the climate and audio systems. Operating navigation, climate control, a paired cell phone, audio system and numerous other vehicle functions does not require a master’s degree in engineering. Rather, with the console-mounted Lexus next-generation Remote Touch, complete with leather trimmed wrist pad, the driver can quickly toggle through screen menus to operate a variety of vehicle systems. One-push confirmation makes menu and item selection easy and intuitive.

Lexus has expanded connectivity in its vehicles while helping to reduce driver distraction. The foundation of this capability, Lexus Enform®, can make a compatible Bluetooth®smartphone even smarter. The available Enform service, with Destination Assist, eDestination, and App Suite, comes with the Navigation System/Mark Levinson Audio Package.  Lexus Enform provides access to the subscription-free App Suite.  These voice-enabled apps let you search the Internet through Bing™, make restaurant reservations through OpenTable®, get movie tickets via MovieTickets.com™, listen to Internet radio, including , Pandora®, and  iHeartRadio™, search business reviews on Yelp®, and check in on  Facebook Places™.

The LS’ telematics system, Lexus Enformwith Safety Connect® is available by subscription. Complimentary one-year trial subscriptions are available on all purchases of new Lexus vehicles equipped with these features. Safety Connect is standard on all vehicles while Lexus Enform with Safety Connect is on all vehicles equipped with the optional Navigation system. The Lexus Enform and the Safety Connect response centers operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—every day of the year.

Lexus Enform vehicles are factory ready for subscriptions to a variety of innovative SiriusXM® services including NavTraffic, NavWeather, Sports, Stocks and Fuel Prices. SiriusXM services offer complimentary one-year trial data subscription.

Lexus Heritage: Stunning Sound
From its inception, Lexus also changed expectations for standard and optional in-car audio, and the newest LS models continue this tradition. Since the 1970s, audiophiles seeking the depth and power of a live performance in their living rooms have turned to the Mark Levinson® brand for its ultra high-end equipment. The hushed cabin of the Lexus LS offers the ideal stage for hearing music at its best, which is what the optional Mark Levinson Reference Surround System provides.

“Reference” is a term respected among audiophiles, and it means the music is played back with the utmost fidelity to the recording. The 19-speaker Lexus Mark Levinson system provides a 5.1 home theatre surround experience using 7.1 architecture and discrete circuitry. The 450-watt, 15-channel ML3-16 Processor Power Amplifier covers the 20Hz-20kHz frequency range with less than 0.1% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) – a stunning achievement in mobile audio.

Safety and Collision Avoidance
The Lexus LS offers a raft of driver-assist technologies, including the advanced Pre-Collision Safety (A-PCS) system with Collision Avoidance Assist. This system is designed to assist the driver in avoiding or mitigating frontal collisions with vehicles and pedestrians under a wide range of city and highway speeds. At speeds lower than 24 mph, this technology can help the LS driver to avoid accidents by automatically bringing the LS to a full stop.

What’s New for 2014

  • Siri Eyes-Free mode.
  • Revised auto headlamp on/off
  • Ability to open trunk lid without key fob being in range when vehicle is unlocked
  • Minor interior color and trim revisions.

  • The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) uses rear millimeter-wave radar to monitor the vehicle rear side blind spots at 10 miles per hour or more. This feature includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), which automatically operates when the vehicle is in reverse, alerting drivers to the approach of other vehicles when backing out of a parking place.
  • The available Automatic High Beam system features a camera located in the inner mirror that detects light sources in front of the vehicle — including the headlamps of oncoming vehicles, the tail lamps of a vehicle ahead and street lighting - to automatically switch the high beams on and off accordingly.
