USA - Viper TA special edition set to become a classic

  • Viper TA (Time Attack) Special Edition spec-package offers track enthusiasts a turn-key track set-up
  • SRT brand offers Viper TA in three exclusive, limited-edition colors - 93 units in special “TA Orange” exterior paint color, 33 units will be built in Venom Black and 33 in Bright White
  • TA will begin to arrive at dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2013

Posting a fast lap time on a road course requires a combination of driver skill and a properly balanced high-performance machine. The Chrysler Group’s SRT (Street and Racing Technology) team delivers half that equation with the 2014 SRT Viper TA (Time Attack).

The street-legal SRT Viper TA is specifically built for the performance enthusiast driver who likes to exercise their machines at the more than 150 road-race courses around North America.

Based on the SRT model, the lightest Viper in the lineup, the TA Special Edition Package builds upon the vehicle’s ultra-low center of gravity, 50/50 weight distribution and largest contact patch in the production car world. The Viper TA uses chassis parts developed specifically by the SRT chassis dynamics team to attain the most out of the race-car-like chassis and create the most confidence inspiring Viper ever. SRT developed new spring rates, dampers, sway bars and brake components, combined as a system with the Viper’s available Advanced Aerodynamics Package, to create one of the most track-capable production cars in the world. The changes keep the SRT Viper TA glued to the track, while the brake system is enhanced for improved balance and to resist thermal saturation during track work.

“The new 2014 SRT Viper TA is engineered for the serious performance enthusiast who needs a car that can be driven daily yet has mind-boggling limits on a road course that would rival many track-only cars. As one of the best handling and fastest supercars available on the market today, the TA enables our customers to take their passion for high performance driving to the next level,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO — SRT Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “The SRT engineering team set out to create a world-class supercar that has few competitors on the track or the road at any price.”

Key high-performance equipment for the 2014 SRT Viper TA Special Edition includes:

  • Unique race-tuned calibration for the two-mode Bilstein DampTronic suspension system, retuned springs, shocks and road-racing derived sway bars offer firmer levels of damping and a smaller spread between modes than what is found on the Viper GTS
  • Lighter, carbon fiber structural X-brace replaces the standard aluminum brace under the hood and ties the four corners of the engine compartment together, contributing to the 50-percent increase in torsional rigidity and stiffness across the Viper lineup
  • New Brembo two-piece, 32-millimeters wide, high-thermal capacity rotors and pads that optimize heat dissipation providing improved extreme use
  • Advanced Aerodynamics Package includes carbon fiber front splitters and rear spoiler to boost downforce at higher speeds – up to a 700-percent increase at 150 mph

Standard Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires are mounted on ultra-lightweight, multi-spoke Sidewinder II wheels. The brake calipers feature a black anodized finish with the Viper logo shown in TA Orange.

A carbon fiber rear applique accentuates the rear width proportions and adds another level of detail.

Under the hood of the 2014 SRT Viper TA is the handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4-liter, mid-front V-10 overhead-valve engine. Performance ratings are 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque – the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world.

Inside, the performance driver-oriented cabin of the 2014 SRT Viper TA uses the same standard premium ballistic fabric racing seats from Sabelt, featuring a lightweight fiberglass shell created by a state-of-the-art resin transfer molding technology for mass reduction and long-term durability. Both driver and passenger seats can also accommodate a 3- or 6-point harness for racing belts.

The standard black interior combination includes unique orange accent stitching on the cloth seats, instrument panel (through the cowl), center stack, console, pull brake, shifter boot, shifter head, steering wheel and upper doors.

Curb weight is 3,390 pounds.

Production of the 2014 SRT Viper TA is underway at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit.  Vehicles will begin to arrive at dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2013.

AUDI celebrate half Million TT's with Limited Edition

High performance 272PS Coupé and Roadster special edition commemorates global sales milestone

  • TTS Limited Edition now available to order in Coupe and Roadster forms to mark 500,000 sales milestone
  • Priced from £38,860 OTR and £42,320 respectively
  • £5,665-worth of styling and equipment upgrades for a premium of £2,815 over ‘standard’ TTS equivalents

The most iconic Audi sports car ever that rapidly shot to stardom at its 1998 debut and has consistently  ever since has now been delivered to over 500,000 customers Worldwide.

To mark this milestone for the first generation TT, its acclaimed 2006 successor and the current, significantly revised model, a very special version of the 272PS TTS has just become available in very limited numbers. Priced from £38,860 OTR in Coupé form and £42,320 OTR as a Roadster, the new TTS Limited Edition will be delivered to just 500 customers worldwide, only 120 of which will be UK-based.

From the word go the TTS competition models set themselves apart through an Audi exclusive paint finish in Nimbus grey for Coupé models and Imola yellow for Roadsters. Both also feature a fixed rear spoiler in the style of the flagship TT RS, and an upgrade from the standard TTS 18-inch five parallel spoke design alloy wheel to a 19-inch five-arm rotor design.

Inside, special Impulse grey leather upholstery with the famous ‘baseball’ stitching in grey and yellow immediately marks them out, and a ‘1 of 500’ plaque in the door insert underlines their exclusivity. A raft of additional driver aids and entertainment extras also makes them even easier to live with. The list includes the technology package comprising DVD-based satellite navigation, a Bluetooth mobile phone interface and Audi Music Interface (AMI) iPod connection, plus a BOSE sound system upgrade, rear parking sensors, cruise control, light and rain sensors and an interior light package providing targeted illumination of specific areas such as the footwells and interior door handles.

Excellent foundations

These features further expand an already comprehensive equipment list which includes exclusive TTS body styling, a quad-tailpipe sports exhaust system, TTS sports suspension with Audi magnetic ride damper control, xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, electronic climate control, heated front sports seats and matt brushed aluminium inlays.

The TTS Limited Edition models carry a premium of £2,815 over their ‘standard’ TTS equivalents, and taking into account their additional equipment this equates to a customer saving of around £5,665 compared with specifying the various items individually.

In the TTS Limited Edition Coupé the 2.0-litre TFSI engine with its 272PS and peak torque of 350Nm is linked to either six-speed manual or six-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmissions. Equipped with the latter, it can touch 62mph from rest after just 5.3 seconds and reach a governed top speed of 155mph, and offers 36.7mpg economy potential with CO2 emissions of 179g/km.

The production of the 500,000th Audi TT underscores the success of the compact sports car, which debuted as a Coupé in 1998 and as a Roadster the year after. The TT set standards not only for its design purity but also for its technology, which included ‘downsized’ turbocharged engines, quattro all-wheel drive for the high-end models and the six-speed S tronic transmission, which debuted in the range in 2003.

The second generation model, which followed in 2006, marked the first time that Audi succeeded in reversing the weight spiral. Thanks to its ASF (Audi Space Frame) body, which is made predominantly of aluminium, the new version weighs as much as 90 kilograms less than its predecessor. The low weight enables strong performance with very low fuel consumption. Another Audi innovation was the TT 2.0 TDI quattro: the world’s first premium-segment sports car with a powerful diesel engine and all-wheel drive.

Additional standard safety equipment includes Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control, ABS, dual-stage/multiple-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags, side curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions, front seatbelts with automatic tensioning system and load limiters, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

The 2013 TL earned the top-level rating of TOP SAFETY PICK+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including a GOOD rating in the new IIHS small overlap front crash test. This test is designed to simulate a collision between a vehicle traveling 40 miles per hour and a fixed object, such as a utility pole, where only 25-percent of the vehicle's front structure engages the opposing object. According to a study by the IIHS, small overlap crashes of this type accounted for nearly 25-percent of frontal crashes resulting in a serious injury or fatality.

The 2014 TL is produced by Honda of America Mfg., Inc., in Marysville, Ohio.
