Futuristic Honda FCEV concept unwrapped in Los Angeles

Previews the 2015 production model

Honda has unveiled the FCEV (fuel cell-electric vehicle) concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Designed to preview the FCX Clarity successor, the FCEV features an aerodynamic design that looks positively futuristic. Notable styling highlights include a protruding grille, a 'floating' roof and covered rear wheels.

The five-passenger FCEV is also the first car to feature a fuel-cell powertrain that is completely packaged in the engine bay. This may not sound all that important but Honda says it will enable designers to create multitude of different fuel cell vehicles with roomy interiors.

Honda didn't have much to say about the fuel cell itself but confirmed it features "significant technological advancements" that enable it to have a 60 percent higher power density than the one in the FCX Clarity despite being 33 percent smaller. The company also revealed the fuel cell should enable drivers to travel more than 300 miles (482 km) on a single fill up that takes approximately three minutes.
