"I meant to take some decent pictures with my good old Lumix but the damn battery died, bad planning, the old I phone did OK just a bit grainy, hope they're OK
The bike is fun, it was a cheap old RT 1977 I got from a friends shed hadn't run for 10 years or more, I took all the RT stuff off and found it was an early RS underneath, a great historic machine in its way fun, anyway fitted an old yamaha SRX400 seat, aerosol painted the tank, got the dustbin from a friend of Ben Parts,  Jake Bowie in London, had to do a pile of work to get it fitting right, re fibre glass the cylinder cutaways, reinforce lots of areas, make mountings etc, paint it, make sidepanels, I had the panniers Enduro Saddlebags for an old R60 sidecar outfit and took some time to make them fit, the exhausts are old Contis from an old Ducati fitted well, rides good, really steady not too nimble but steady, OK in winds, quite a fruity rumbler really, I had a  problem early test rides, heavy braking front end dive, mudguard jammed inside fairing console kind of jammed the steering, caused minor concern rectified with a hacksaw and 4 inches off the mudguard...

The road is on the A5 in Snowdonia, Ogwen Valley near Bethesda, it is the old road from London to Holyhead where I live, and finally Dublin via ferry, the first national continuous government funded trunk road built in Britain in around 1840 conect the two capitol cities and all that stuff.....

Get your suit on!

In a few hours the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride will start on different spots around the world.  Get your suit on!
Ben Part made this brilliant pic last year at the DGR in London.
Check the DGR site for a ride near you. Maybe we'll meet tomorrow in Amsterdam. Ride save and make some noise:)

On a side note. Last Sunday an idiot tried to kill me with his car and to avoid that I crashed my SV again. suckysucky
And some minutes ago I had my first flat tire on the highway with my Super 100.
That's some scary shit I can tell you...!
So tomorrow I will ride my GR650 :)

Wheels and Waves 2013 - Saturday at the lighthouse - part 1

Two days ago Southsiders MC announced on their website:

"We're already in the middle of planning the 2014's edition of Wheels and Waves; the inspiration is already gaining momentum we just need to put the ideas into practice!
Stronger, faster, further! Til next year..."

That's probably the best news I heard this year!

Dunecraft Balance Bikes

Sideburn Ben tipped me on this beautiful toy.

The Dunecraft balance bike is based on an early 1920s Isle of Man TT winning racing motorbike.
It is made of top quality birch wood and comes fully assembled with a stand.
The balance bike is suitable for children from the age of 3 or those above the height of 86cm.
The seat can be adjusted to three different heights. The bike weighs 8 kg.
The Dunecraft balance bike is hand-made from the start to the finish.
A balance bike is the best way to start before learning to ride a bicycle.

Ever since Gijs Dune discovered his father’s toolbox in the basement (at the age of 5), he started unscrewing things,
curious to see what was in the inside and how it worked.
"The beautiful antique clock which my parents received as their wedding present also had to give way to my curiosity.
I remember very well my father’s reaction after he discovered what I had done…
I have been fiddling with tools ever since then."
His interest in how things work grew and motorbikes in particular became his passion.
"My ultimate dream came true in 2000 when I restored my 1948 Vincent Rapide, to original factory standard."

Gijs is mainly self-taught in all his skills. He inherited his technical interest from his father
and the artistic creativity from his mother.
The result is the beautiful wooden, high quality, hand-made Dunecraft balance bike.
The company is based in Leiden, a university town in the Netherlands where bicycles are the main form of transportation
due to the narrow streets, dense population and the short distance between destinations.
