CHINA - Ford posts a significant 55% increase in October Chinese sales, and 52% year to date


  • Ford China October sales reach 93,969 wholesales, up 55%; year-to-date sales reach 741,818 wholesales, up 52%
  • CAF October sales reach 70,173 wholesales, up 61%; year-to-date sales reach 536,421 wholesales, up 68%
  • JMC October sales reach 21,724, up 36%; year-to-date sales reach 186,920, up 14%

Ford China continued to expand sales in October, with 93,969 wholesale units sold, up 55 percent from October 2012. Following a record third quarter, year-to-date sales also remain strong with 741,818 wholesale units sold, up 52 percent compared to the same period last year.


The Ford Focus led October sales with 39,710 wholesales sold in October, up 18 percent year on year and 48 percent year to date. The all-new Ford Mondeo—launched at the end of August—sold 7,805 wholesale units in October, and Ford’s impressive SUV lineup—the Explorer, Edge, Kuga and EcoSport—continued to be in high demand. The Ford EcoSport sold 6,484 wholesale units in October while the Ford Kuga sold 9,604 wholesale units.

Changan Ford Automobile (CAF), Ford’s passenger car joint venture in China, sold 70,173 wholesale units in October, up 61 percent compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date sales reached 536,421, up 68 percent compared to January to October 2012.

Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford's commercial vehicle joint venture in China, also delivered fantastic October sales with 21,724 wholesale sold, up 36 percent compared to the same period last year. Strong JMC sales were driven by increased demand for the Ford Transit, which sold 6,036 wholesale units in October, up 19 percent compared to October 2012. Year-to-date sales for JMC reached 186,920 wholesale units, up 14 percent compared to January to October last year.

Ford closed October after hitting a major milestone in its Asia Pacific region, selling one million vehicles for the first time — with China contributing a large portion of that with its strong sales performance.

Ford retains best selling nameplate for the Focus for the first half of 2013


  • Ford Focus is the best-selling vehicle nameplate globally according to Polk registration data for the first half of 2013
  • Globally Focus is up 20 per cent in the first half of this year compared with the same period last year
  • In the UK almost nine per cent more customers chose a new Ford Focus this year when comparing the same six months 

 Ford Focus, the best-selling vehicle nameplate in the world in 2012, retains the title for the first half of 2013.

In addition, Ford Fiesta ranks as the fourth best-selling vehicle – making Ford the only brand to have two nameplates among the global top five best-sellers, according to Polk global vehicle registration data.


Ford Focus grew 20 per cent in the first half of 2013 from the same period last year, to 589,709 vehicle registrations, driven primarily by increasing demand from customers in China and other Asian countries.

In the UK 47,675 new Ford Focus cars were delivered in the first six months of this year, up 8.7 per cent on the 43,853 cars sold in the first half of 2012.  Ford Focus is the second best-selling car in Britain behind Ford Fiesta.

“Fiesta and Focus just keep getting better,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, global marketing, sales and service.  “This is Ford’s ‘One Ford’ global strategy at its best:  great-looking vehicles with leading fuel economy, leading quality, technology and fun-to-drive personalities.”

Both Ford’s Focus and Fiesta are among the top five global best-sellers.  Combined worldwide registrations of Focus and Fiesta –946,143 cars for the first six months of the year, represent an 8 per cent increase.
