Honda is the Most Durable, Longest Lasting Brand in its Class for Past 25 Years

  • Honda brand is  #1 in class for product longevity
  • No other mainstream brand had a higher percentage of vehicles on the road from 1988-2012.
Honda vehicles are the most durable and longest lasting of any mainstream automotive brand*, according to Polk vehicle registration statistics from 1988-2012. No other mainstream brand had a greater percentage of vehicles on the road than the Honda brand. In the mainstream segment, an industry best 75% of all Honda vehicles sold in the last 25 years were still on the road.

"One of the most important considerations for a new vehicle purchase is how long that vehicle will last and this study demonstrates that Honda quality and reliability is not just part of our hard-earned reputation but represents our industry-leading performance on the road," said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president of automobile operations for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "If consumers want the most durable, longest lasting mainstream brand, Honda vehicles are the clear choice."

The quality and reliability of Honda vehicles is a major factor in their long-standing leadership in earning key industry value awards. For instance, for the second year in a row, Honda won ALG's top honor of Best Mainstream Brand in its annual Residual Value Awards for vehicles that are predicted to retain the highest percentage of their original price after a conventional three-year period. Honda has won the top honor more than any other automaker -- a record 8 out of 11 years they've awarded a mainstream brand. In 2013, Honda also earned multiple awards for individual models for Best Resale Value from KBB.com and Best Retained Value from Edmunds.com.

* Durability based on longevity. Longevity based on IHS Automotive, Polk U.S. vehicles in operation registration statistics 1988-2012 for Honda and non-luxury competing brands.

UK Top 10: Honda tops most reliable car league table

The Land of the Rising Sun is way out in front of the competition when it comes to building cheap, robust and reliable motors, it seems.

And if you want a vehicle that’s guaranteed to fire-up first time, we’re sad to report, you need to avoid British models like the plague.

For the eighth year in a row, Honda heads the list of the top ten most reliable cars on the road in a table dominated by Japanese companies.

Renowned for its engineering ingenuity, the Tokyo-based manufacturer beat rival Suzuki into second place.
In fact, seven of the top ten spots are occupied by the Japanese – South Korea’s Hyundai is third – with only Ford and Chevrolet breaking the Far East’s dominance.

Rover, which went bust in 2005, is the highest placed British car maker in the reliability stakes – in 24th place.

And if you think forking out for a top end motor will save you money in the long run, think again.
Luxury marques Bentley and Land Rover are the least reliable to drive. Experts looked at 38 car makes by examining warranty claims of 50,000 three- to eight-year-old vehicles.

Honda models were the most reliable and cheapest to fix if they did break down the What Car? and Warranty Direct survey found.

Chas Hallett, editor-in-chief of What Car?, said: ‘Honda’s success is down to low failure rates. Manufacturers at the bottom of the table could learn from their Japanese counterparts.’

Top 10
1. Honda
2. Suzuki
3. Hyundai
4. Subaru
5. Toyota
6. Lexus
7. Chevrolet
8. Mitsubishi
9. Ford
10. Mazda

Honda CR-Z Hits 100,000 Miles Without Skipping A Beat

by Philippe Crowe of www.hybridcars.com

A 2010 Honda CR-Z has hit the landmark of clocking up 100,000 miles in just three years.

The car is part of a UK-based ten-strong fleet made up purely of Honda hybrids, also including Jazz and Insight models, which has racked up an amazing half a million miles since 2010.

The fleet is owned and run by Renewable Solutions UK, designers and installers of Renewable Energy Systems for business and domestic customers.

With the cars used on a daily basis in its work up and down the country, Mike Lowes, Managing Director of Renewable Solutions UK commented: “Honda hybrids are a perfect fit for our business, with the efficiency of battery power and the many environmental and financial benefits this brings. The fleet is worked very hard, every day, for both short and long journeys, but we’ve only ever had to pay for standard servicing and wear and tear costs, and no major breakdowns. They just keep going without skipping a beat!”

The fleet has been built up over the last three years with all of the cars bought from Greenacre Honda in Blackburn.

“We have complete free rein in what we buy and where we buy it from, so the fact that we stick with Honda is testament to the trust we have in the brand,” continued Mike Lowes. “Honda hybrids are a reliable, no-compromise solution to our needs, and Greenacre have offered us great customer service and value for money.”

Renewable Solutions UK offers a complete range of Sustainable Energy Systems to domestic, commercial and agricultural clients. The company installs Wind Turbines, Solar Panels, Biomass boilers and Heat pumps. Working across the country and internationally, it offers a range of tariffs, grants and funding solutions to clients.

Honda UK offers a range of three gasoline-electric hybrids, which currently includes the CR-Z, Insight and Jazz models.

The CR-Z is the world’s first sporty hybrid coupe, delivering a combined 56.5 mpg with CO2 emissions of just 116 g/km. It features three driving modes and a six speed manual gearbox.
